Image
Love Curse by Steven E. Wedel Moon Howler Press  2017 280 pages   Love Curse  is   a coming of age story predominantly centering around four teens from the small town of Windy Acres, Oklahoma. We soon meet Ashley, a small town girl who keeps herself pretty well adjusted. A top achieving academic, she enjoys blending in with her school’s choir group though she wouldn’t really call any of them friends. She prefers to hang with her true besties, Jen and Anna. The three of them have known each other forever and their friendship and has always been a source of trust and safety, a sanctuary where even Anna, for all her gothed out angsty ways, is free to be comfortable in her own skin. They would soon learn, however, life has a way of taking best laid plans and turning them upside down. Ashley never thought she’d be dating the notorious pot smoking outcast, Keith who claims to have had an epiphany and is committed to changing his bad boy ways. Nor could any of ...

REVIEWING A LIGHT BEYOND BY STEVE WEDEL

Image
A LIGHT BEYOND Steve Wedel Moon Howler Press June, 2017 Reviewed by Rick Hipson Deciding to take publishing matters into his own hands, author, Steven E. Wedel , recently launched his own publishing house called Moon Howler Press. MHP hosts a library of titles showcasing the author’s cross genre appeal, with A LIGHT BEYOND being one of the newest additions and, coincidentally, the one I’m reviewing for you now. While easily labeled a coming of age story, it would be an overly simplistic way to describe a story that is much more than its relatively short length might have you believe. While A LIGHT BEYOND employs several unapologetic strokes of terror and general discomfort to make you cringe and squirm, its also apt to have you pondering the implications of any past transgressions you may have of your own long after the last page in the book has been read. The true beauty of A LIGHT BEYOND is found within the relationship between young Robert and Alia, h...

Amara's Prayer by Steve Wedel: Review and Exclusive Author Interview

Image
As most Dark Bite regulars know, I'm a big fan of Steve Wedel and his work and a constant burr in my side is that he hasn't been deservedly picked up by a major publisher.  Yet. His latest offering brings even more proof  that his work is folds above most of its ilk.  The kind folks at Hell Notes once more play host to a review by your's truly of Steve's outstanding novel, followed by an exclusive interview by the author in which we discuss the origins of Amara's Prayer and its hard hitting subject matter. You can read the review HERE , and enjoy the short interview HERE . If once you've read and no doubt enjoyed the novel, the story doesn't have to end there.  Steve has allowed us to travel along with Milton Agnew's personal diary HERE . Support your indie authors and help spread the word by sharing and passing along.

The Next Big Thing

Let me start off by saying I don't typically do these chain letter survey things.  In fact, I generally do not like them and find them to be  waste of time.  That said, when my friend, Steve Wedel , was kind enough to have thought of me as his next in line to keep this particular one going, how could I say no?  I couldn't because Steve has been a long time supporter of my writing and has always given me his time when I asked for it.  And, rumor has it the man can grow a little long in the tooth and form a blood hungry appetite under the right conditions and one shouldn't mess with that, so, after putting this off for way too long, here goes. Oh, and it seems this survey is meant for book writers and since I don't have a book under way (just plenty of shorts and other smaller projects) for the sake of this survey, I will be referring to my Dark Bites blog.. THE NEXT BIG THING What is the working title of your book (site)? Dark Bites...

A Call To Boycott Scrybe Press

Dear Dark Bite readers, I received very sobering e-mail from my friend, Steve Wedel, on December 25th. You may remember Steve from a previous post HERE. Between vacation time and fighting a nagging bug now out of the way, it's time I start to catch up things of importance, like this post. If you're a regular reader of Dark Bites - Thank-you, by the way - then chances are you hate when writers get screwed by publishers as much as I do. I don't care what a publisher's reason is or how justified he or she may think they are for not paying a writer, or any creative artist for that matter, but if you choose to accept and publish any work from any creator, then that creative author deserves to get paid, period. They deserve for you to live up to any payment promises outline in either your submission guidelines or, especially, i an agreed upon binding contract. Sad;ly, Steve is not one of those writers who met with a fair and honest deal and Scrybe Press ...

Steve Wedel: An exclusive live audio interview

Image
I first "met" Steven E. Wedel back in my days of writing for Insidious Reflections magazine (now defunct).  The magazine had interviewed him, but mostly I remembered Steve as being a constant support system and fan of the magazine, which made me instantly like him.  It was a few years later when I was writing for Fear Zone (also defunct, but still available to read at www.fearzone.com) that it was arranged for me to interview Steve.  Since I feel it's neither right or sensible to interview one's subject without first having an in depth knowledge of their work, I dove in and read several of his works including the entire Werewolf Saga books to date.  First impression was how the hell had I gone this long without reading this man's work?  And why wasn't he on any major best sellers list as he so obviously deserves?  The man can write!  I immediately read everything I could by him.  Short stories, novellas, novels - it...

The Wolves Grow Restless

Image
As the veil between our world and their's grows thinner, a restlessness washes over all beneath such darkening skies.  In the distance within the coldest mountains a growl rises up and turns to an echoing chorus of tormented howling.  Rising up from their slumber they join the ranks and begin to roam the lands.  The pack is gathering and the herd must be culled. In preparation of the gathering beasties, I turned to none other than literary wolf master, Steven E. Wedel, author of the Werewolf Saga and other critically acclaimed works such as his YA novel After Obsession which he co-authored with Carrie Jones.  The clock has been set and before the first of the pack (Murdered by Human Wolves) is unleashed this October 29th, Steven has agreed to a sit down to discuss why this Halloween marks a major turn of action regarding the ongoing battle raging between his wolves and the unsuspecting public. Provided I ma...
